Before You Dig Australia
Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) (formally called Dial Before You Dig) are an online central repository of utility owner plans for the underground networks. However, Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) is still currently the governing certification body for the underground service locating industry (this may change soon for the names to be aligned). Obtaining utility owner plans through BYDA is the essential first step that should be undertaken prior to any excavation. To meet statutory obligations, these plans need to be correctly interpreted and validated and kept on-site until the completion of the project. However not all utility owner’s (including some Local Council Area’s) provide their underground network information through BYDA and it can end up being a costly process for someone with limited experience.
