Acoustic Service Detection
Sometimes neither injection nor induction of different frequencies in the form of electrical current is a viable option for service locating. Either due to a lack of access to the service or the underground services material constitution. Likewise Ground Penetrating Radar may also not be an option, due to non-traversable terrain or soil conditions not being conducive to GPR technology. In this scenario we need to draw on some of our other capabilities such as the use of our acoustic detection unit. With the use of our highly sensitive audio receiver and ground microphone, audible tones or patterns of sounds can be injected into the pipework and heard resonating through the system. As proximity to the target utility or service increases so too does the audible feedback allowing accurate location of the hard to find service.
